Vietnamese youngster at Stade Brestois 29

His name is Vinh Nghi Phan, who is currently in the U19 squad of Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois 29. He got in touch with me this morning and shared some of his pics with me. Both of his parents are Vietnamese but he's now holding French passport.

Dinh Tung completes move to Hai Phong

After spending 6 years playing for Thanh Hoa, striker Hoang Dinh Tung decided to take a new step in his career with a move to Vicem Hai Phong. The 23-year-old is among top Vietnamese strikers in the league, with 10 goals last season. He's currently with Vietnam U23 preparing for SEA Games 2011.

Cornell Glen scored a brace for SLNA in friendly

Cornell Glen
Trinidad & Tobago striker Cornell Glen, who has been capped 59 times with T&T national team including 3 appearances in World Cup 2006, impressively scored a double as SLNA trounced Thanh Hoa 4-0 in a pre-season friendly. Alongside Glen, two more T&T internationals Clyde Leon and Devorn Jorsling are having trial at SLNA.

After having great success with three Jamaican players last season, SLNA is leading the way in the trend of transfering players from Caribbean region to Vietnam. This week, Peter Byers, an Antigua & Barbuda international, will also travel to Nghe An.

SHB Da Nang recruit German striker

Felix Luz, who had played for several clubs including Vfb Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, St. Pauli and Augsburg, has signed a 2-year contract with SHB Da Nang. The 29-year-old striker, who played as a trailist for Da Nang in BTV Cup 2011, impressed coach Le Huynh Duc with his quality, especially his aerial ability.

Felix Luz is the second German playing in Vietnam. The first one was former Ninh Binh player Joseph Laumann.

Vietnam U19 was eliminated in the semi-final of BIDC Cup 2011 after losing to Myanmar in the penalty shootouts.

Matsubara won BTV Cup

Brazilian side Matsubara defeated hosts Binh Duong 2-0 in the the final to lift BTV Cup 2011. Both goals were scored from free-kick by Ernesto Paulo Ferreira in last 10 minutes.

BInh Duong's Udo Fortune is top scorer with 4 goals.

HAGL capture Bassey Akpan from Nigeria


Nigerian goalkeeper Bassye Akpan, who was capped once for his nation in 2010, is reportedly the latest signing of HAGL. He joined Evaldo (Brazil), Jerry Santos (Kenya), Allan Wanga (Kenya) and Moses Oyiboaga (Nigeria) to complete the quota of 5 imports of HAGL.

Jamaica internationals in trial with Hai Phong

Jamaican internationals Errol Stevens, Andre Clennon and Mario Swaby were seen playing for Vicem Hai Phong in the opening game of BTV Cup 2011. Stevens impressively scored both goals for his side in Hai Phong's 2-1 victory over Slovakian club MSK Zilina.

There has been report that two other Jamaican Kavin Bryan and Andre Fagan, who won V-League 2011 with SLNA, will also join Vicem Hai Phong next season.

Overseas Vietnamese Updates

1. Christopher Nguyen (born 1988): Christopher has left Karlsruher SC, where he made only 7 senior appearances during last 2 years, to join Hessen Kassel. His new club plays in Regionalliga, 4-th tier competition in Germany. At least, he's a regular starter there.

2. Truong Minh Tuan (born 1981): His contract at SV Argon is expired. He's now looking for a new club.

3. Johnny Nguyen (born 1986): After seeing his contract run out at Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims, Johnny Nguyen has decided to start a new chapter in his career. According to a reliable source, he's in Vietnam and may join a V-League club if things are going well.

4. Michal Nguyen (born 1989):

The 22-year-old centre-back is 1m84 in height. He has made 5 appearances for Banik Most, a Czech second-tier club.

5. Kevin Pham-Ba (born 1994):

After impressing in the Sochaux U-19 last season, the 17-year-0ld striker was promoted to Sochaux II team.

6. Michel Le (born 1993):

Michel Le is a defender. He's playing for FC Metz II.

Lee Nguyen obtains Vietnamese citizenship

Former Binh Duong player Lee Nguyen is reported to have officially completed all formalities to acquire Vietnamese citizenship. Despite having Vietnamese passport, he can't represent Vietnam at international level because of his 3 caps with US national team.

Any person of Vietnamese origin can get Vietnamese nationality without giving up his/her old nationality. Therefore, Lee Nguyen is allowed to have dual nationality.
