Scavi-Rocheteau Academy

Scavi-Rocheteau Academy, which is located in Ho Chi Minh City, is the first football academy in Vietnam. Its first class started in 2006 and some of their young players are already part of Vietnam U18. Interestingly, three young players, all 17 years old, were sent to France for three weeks trial with St Etienne and Montpellier this September. Check the website of Scavi-Rocheteau Academy.

One more interesting thing about football in Ho Chi Minh City. Remember Saigon International Football League that I wrote about a few months ago? One friend of mine has just started a new team to take part in that competition. Any one interested in some weekend football, expats or Vietnamese, can join the team. Visit Saigon Hotshots website for more info.

Vietnam U23 0-1 South Korea University Team

Eximbank Cup 2011:
Aspire Senegal U17 2-0 Singapore U23
Vietnam U23 0-1 South Korean University Team

Don't blame our U23 team. They're better than Vietnam national team who lost 0-2 to Korean students last year. LOL.

Off-season

V-League 2011 is over. Off-season is the time for international fixtures and honestly they are not my best interest. However, I still keep an eye on what our national team of all levels are doing.

Vietnam national team: After getting kicked out of WC qualification, Vietnam NT will have only friendlies to play until AFF Cup 2012. The next friendly fixture is on October 7th when our national team travels to Japan to take on the hosts.

Vietnam U23: Vietnam U23 has a familiar goal this year: winning SEA Games gold medal. To prepare for that, 27 players were called-up to take part in some training sessions and play two friendly tournaments: Eximbank Cup in Ho Chi Minh city and VFF Cup in Hanoi. The squad list is here.

Vietnam U21: Vietnam U21 will be the hosts of the annual competition Thanh Nien Newspaper U21 International Cup which kicks off on September 25th. The squad has not been announced yet.

Vietnam U19: Our teenagers are doing pretty well in U19 AFF Cup in Myanmar. After defeating Brunei 7-0, Vietnam U19 drew 1-1 with Myanmar and enjoyed 6-1 victory over Indonesia. The last opponent in group stage will be Laos.

Vietnam U16: In Laos, Vietnam U16 drew 1-1 with South Korea but lost heavily 0-3 to the hosts in the following game. The other names in our group are Japan, Chinese Taipei and Cambodia.

and... Uganda U23: Uganda stands third behind Brazil and Nigeria in term of exporting players to Vietnam. Their U23 side has many Vietnam-based players. Moses Oloya (Saigon Xuan Thanh), Ibrahim Juma (Saigon Xuan Thanh) and Ntambi Kirizestom (Navibank Saigon) all took part in the 2-2 away draw with Iraq national team and 0-0 draw with Cameroon U23.

Aspire Academy U18 to participate in Eximbank Cup

Aspire Academy will send a team to take part in Eximbank Cup 2011 (or Ho Chi Minh City Cup). It replaces North Korea U23 who withdrew. The reason of their withdrawal might be due to the participation of South Korea University team, an amateur side. Yet, our national team plays against this team every year and the worst thing is we rarely win. The other team is Singapore U23.

Eximbank Cup will start next week, on Sep 20th.

6 clubs want to leave V-League, set up own league

Half of Vietnam’s topflight V-League clubs have voiced their intention to leave the league and establish their own league in a move to protest the corrupt refereeing and cover-up of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The news was announced by Hanoi ACB club chairman Nguyen Duc Kien at a conference on Thursday in Hanoi to review the 2010-11 football season.

He refused to give the names of the six clubs, except revealing that Hoa Phat Hanoi had submitted its petition to leave V-League to Hanoi Football Federation, a VFF affiliate, on Wednesday.

Vissai Ninh Binh club chairman Hoang Manh Tuong shared Kien’s criticism of VFF and said, “I strongly support the idea to leave V-League and totally agree with what Kien said at the meeting.”

Below is a brief summary of Kien’s speech at the meeting.

“Six clubs told me they would leave V-League and come together to set up their own football league called Super League. This is a result of the growing anger of football investors in the nation over the indifference of VFF and its competition organization board.

It has nothing to do with the demotion of the two clubs Hanoi ACB and Dong Tam Long An, but is a strong and clear expression of disgust and anger from football fans and involved clubs against referees who intentionally favor some teams in exchange for money.

Referees Tran Cong Trong and Nguyen Van Quyet, who are facing suspension for the entire coming season for their misconduct, favored Vicem Hai Phong over Hoa Phat Hanoi and Binh Duong in July and August in such an obvious manner that has drawn sharp protests among football fans.

But VFF has, for a long time, kept repeating the refrain ‘we have no proof.’

For me, personally, VFF’s competition organization board and the national referee council have a lot of issues that need to be urgently dealt with, not the least of which is their dereliction of duty and handling of staff misconduct.

I’ve been too disappointed with VFF.”

Addressing the meeting as representative of the main sponsor Eximbank and deputy VFF chairman, Le Hung Dung announced Eximbank is considering canceling their sponsorship due to rampant corruption.

Dung demanded that VFF impose life suspension penalties against the two referees Trong and Quyet as one of the conditions for Eximbank to continue its sponsoring deal with VFF.

VFF chairman could only respond that, “I fear sponsors and investors will turn their back on Vietnam’s football.”

Hoa Phat blames corrupt referees, quitting football

Hoa Phat Ha Noi is going to be sold to another owner as their bosses lose hope with Vietnamese football. After just surviving the relegation battle this season, Hoa Phat Ha Noi officials are too disappointed with the poor results as well as off-pitch problems of V-League. They pointed their anger to referees, accusing them of poor quality and corruption. The climax was Hai Phong - Hoa Phat game in which the visitors furiously criticized referees for being bias towards the hosts who won the game.

Reports are suggesting about a merge between Hoa Phat Ha Noi and Ha Noi ACB. More to follow.

Update: Hoa Phat president confirmed Hoa Phat Ha Noi FC has been sold to Ha Noi ACB. All best players of two clubs will join the V-League side while the fate of relegated team Ha Noi ACB is to be decided soon.

Samson Kayode quits European dream

Former Dong Thap striker failed to complete his move to Atletico Madrid and Sporting Braga as he couldn't get ITC from VFF. The move was blocked because the Nigerian signed a contract with Ha Noi T&T a few months ago and also received a decent amount of money. After final negotiation about contract termination yesterday, Samson Kayode had to give up his European hope as Ha Noi T&T demanded US$ 2 million of compensation. As a result, Kayode will stay in Vietnam next season, playing for V-League 2011 runners-up, Ha Noi T&T.
