Czech Republic is first choice

Mac Hong Quan, who was born in 1992 in Vietnam but grew up in Czech Republic, is now captain of Sparta Praha youth team. When asked about possibility of playing for Vietnam at international level, he said he wants to play for Czech Republic but will consider playing for Vietnam if his first option can't be realised. He also rejected the call-up from Vietnam U19 team.

Below are some pictures of Mac Hong Quan, who plays as a centre midfielder.

The only change in the slots for the 2011 edition is Vietnam’s disqualification for non-submission of documents and the allocation of their ACL play-off spot to Qatar. Not so surprised.

Not just a friendly tournament

BTV Cup, a pre-season tournament held annually by hosts Becamex Binh Duong, is always much expected by Vietnamese clubs. This year, as usual, will feature four club sides from Vietnam and four foreign clubs. It's a great opportunity for local clubs to prepare for upcoming V-League season, test new players and most importantly search for quality foreign players. Yes, BTV Cup is the biggest off-season international competition and also the biggest transfer market for Vietnamese clubs every year.

In Vietnam, the demand for good foreigners is very high but the scouting system is terrible. As most clubs never send scouts outside of Vietnam, most players found their way to Vietnam by introduction of agents or their friends who has experienced football here. Therefore, quality was a problem and most of them were rejected.

Super agent Jorge Mendes was seen with Henrique Calisto at BTV Cup 2009 during his visit to Vietnam
BTV Cup is a much more reliable source for potential signings. Every year, we can spot a big number of club scouts on the stands. They watch every game with the hope of finding a good addition to their club. Many top players of V-League have come to Vietnam by this way. Kesley Alves, Leandro, Philani and Elenildo de Jesus are good examples. Among 4 invited clubs, Matsubara has been known as a main supplier of Brazilian players for V-League for some recent years. French players of Etoile FC, champions of S-League, will be also on the radar this year.

Timothy Anjembe move to Binh Duong

Timothy Anjembe, who has been ranked among top strikers of V-League for last 2 seasons, has reached initial agreement with Becamex Binh Duong about a contract. The club expects him to be a perfect replacement for naturalized striker Huynh Kesley, who has said goodbye to Binh Duong at the end of V-League 2010.

Timothy played for Dong Thap in 2009 before moving to Hoa Phat Ha Noi early this year. He was top scorer of Nigerian Premier League when only 18.

Vietnam finished VFF Cup 2010 at bottom as fans calling for naturalized players return

In the wake of VFF Cup 2010 failure, Vietnam national team is now facing a lot of problems with the knee injury of target striker Nguyen Viet Thang adding to crisis of quality forwards. At the moment, majority of fans believe it's the right time for a change and VFF should allow Henrique Calisto to call up foreign-born players to strengthen the national team, especially Huynh Kesley Alves who is among top strikers of V-League. However, the final decision depends on the federation.

Below are the list of Vietnam's games featuring naturalized players:
2007 Vietnam 0-2 Brazil Olympic Team (Phan Van Santos)
2008 Indonesia 1-0 Vietnam (Phan Van Santos)
2008 Vietnam 2-3 Turkmenistan (Phan Van Santos)
2009 Vietnam 1-0 Olympiakos (Dinh Hoang La, Dinh Hoang Max)
2009 Kuwait 0-1 Vietnam (Dinh Hoang La, Dinh Hoang Max, Huynh Kesley Alves)
