Deep in the red

Financial income and outcome of Vietnamese clubs are something not publicized widely and exactly. But one thing for sure, no club could earn enough money from football to supply the everyday need of its club, particularly in V-League.

So, where does the money come from? It comes from some big domestic corporations, which need football and its large fanbase to promote their trademark. That's why most of Vietnamese football club names are attached to a company name like T&T, Becamex, Hoang Anh... Moreover, because of the pure purpose of promotion, they don't mind spending a lot of cash without thinking about income from football. Some football clubs open stadium on game day for free such as Dong Thap or at very low ticket price like Da Nang (just around a single dollar). Other commercial incomes such as jerseys and souvenirs are completely forgot. However, promotion through football proves quite effective so big companies just keep pouring the money in to help their club become famous and win titles.

Some revealed numbers of V-League clubs:
Navibank Sai Gon: Out: 50 billion VND (US$ 2.6 mil) / In: Nearly zero
Da Nang: Out: 40 billion VND / In: 4 billion VND
HAGL: Out: 70 billion VND / In: 10 billion VND

SLNA won National Cup

SLNA v HAGL: 1-0 (Razack Ekpoki)

SLNA has won National Cup 2010 after beating HAGL 1-0 at Thong Nhat Stadium under an extremely heavy rain. As a result, SLNA earned a place at AFC Cup 2011.

Please stay!

Dong Thap fans were calling their players not to leave the club in Dong Thap's last V-League game. A number of Dong Thap players may leave the club at the end of the season. The most notable are Samson, Luong Van Duoc Em and head coach Pham Cong Loc.

More pics to be found here.

Da Nang players to leave

Da Nang is now facing new trouble. While it still has AFC Cup 2010 fixtures in September to deal with, a lot of its players are heading to exit.

V-League 2010 top scorer Gaston Merlo was reported to have rejected a contract from his club and is now very close to a deal with either Ha Noi ACB or Binh Duong.

Matias Eduardo is targeted by Thanh Hoa while Nicolas Hernandez is linked with Binh Duong.
Gambia international Modou Jagne will leave for Europe after his 4-month contract expired.

Phan Thanh Phuc and GK Tran Duc Cuong are likely to join Hoa Phat Ha Noi.

Leandro released by Hai Phong

After failing to reach an agreement about a new deal with Hai Phong, Brazilian midfielder Leandro was reported to leave the club and return to Brazil. It's likely he will return to Vietnam in some months and join another Vietnamese club. Binh Duong, Ha Noi ACB and Ha Noi T&T are chasing the highest-paid player of V-League 2010.

V-League 2010 Transfers: Top and Flop

TOP
Unexpected good signings

1. Danny David Mrwanda (Dong Tam Long An)
Forward Danny Mrwanda, who has earned 22 caps with Tanzania national team, is definitely one of most successful signings in this season. He has speed, good movement, decent finishing and can play well as winger. Accompanied by Antonio Carlos and Tshamala Kabanga, Danny became the last piece of a super attacking trio that helps his club earn most points in the second phase of V-league 2010.

2. Timothy Anjembe (Hoa Phat)
Joining Hoa Phat from Dong Thap, Timothy was unlucky to have his leg broken just a month before the season started. However, the 23-year-old striker recovered quickly and scored as many as 14 goals to help his club avoid relegation.

3. Rajko Vidovic (SLNA)
Despite his old age, Rajko has proved his quality in his first season in Vietnam. The 35-year-old found the net 11 times this season and became main attacker of his club.

4. Sunday Ibeji (Dong Thap)
When Aniekan left Dong Thap at the end of last season, the club was worried about its weakened midfield. However, another Nigerian player has replaced his position extremely well. The new player is Sunday Ibeji and Dong Thap fans must be very pleased with his performance.

5. Nicolas Hernandez (Da Nang)
The Argentine player was a very good addition to Da Nang squad. His nice passes and high work rate became an important link between midfielders and forwards.

6. Cassiano Henrique (Hoa Phat)
Brazilian defender Cassiano is another successful signing of promoted side Hoa Phat. He has strength, good anticipation and decision. A solid defender in front of Hoa Phat's goal.

7. Nguyen Hoang Helio (SLNA)
Joining from Binh Duong, naturalized defender Helio added a lot to SLNA's defense line.

FLOP
Simply should have been better...

1. Elenildo de Jesus (Binh Duong):
V-League 2006 top scorer turned out to be a weak and slow striker, not to mention his poor finishing. Spending most of his time on the bench, Elenildo failed to make any impact when getting chance to play.

2. Lazaro de Souza (Hai Phong)
Top scorer of last season was a bench-warmer this year. Definitely not good enough.

3. Bui Quang Huy (Hai Phong)
Vietnam international goalie Bui Quang Huy came to Hai Phong with high expectation but a lot of his silly mistakes have destroyed the hope.

4. Lee Nguyen (Binh Duong)
Can't say his performances were bad but certainly not up to expectation and his big paycheck. Poor fitness and out of form, he often started his games from the bench.

5. Le Tostao (Thanh Hoa)
Zimbabwe-born striker has full of experience of playing in Vietnam but what he showed was simply not good enough.

6. Mauro Santos (SLNA, Thanh Hoa)
Although Mauro was given a lot of chances at SLNA as well as Thanh Hoa, he often disappointed everyone.

22 August 2010

Gaston Merlo is top scorer again

With a total of 19 goals, Argentine striker Gaston Merlo has successfully defended his V-League Top Scorer title which he first achieved in 2009.

Following Merlo is HAGL striker Evaldo who scored 16 goals. Nigerian forward Timothy Anjembe and naturalized striker Huynh Kesley shared the third place with 14 goals.
