SHB Da Nang clips
SHB Da Nang is going to play Muang Thong United in ACL 2010 Playoff early next year. If they can keep their V-League 2009 form, I'm sure they can be a tough test for any team especially in Chi Lang stadium.
Here are some impressive performances of Da Nang against other big Vietnamese sides:
SHB Da Nang vs HAGL: 4-1 (V-League 2009)
SHB Da Nang vs GDT Long An: 4-0 (V-League 2009)

No restriction on naturalized players
A dispatch signed by Deputy Minister of Justice Dinh Trung Tung, sent to the VFF, said that VFF’s resolution dated November 18 which stipulates that each club is allowed to use only one foreign player who is granted the Vietnamese citizenship at a time in a match, is at odds with Vietnam’s Constitution, the Nationality Law, the Labour Code and the Law on Physical Training and Sports.
Deputy Minister Tung affirmed that according to the Constitution and a number of other laws, people who have Vietnamese nationality are Vietnamese citizens and all citizens are equal in law.
“The VFF’s regulations have restricted the civil rights. The Ministry of Justice asks the VFF to amend its resolution to fit the current laws,” the dispatch said.
Nguyen Van Toan, vice chief of the Ministry of Justice’s Judicial Administration Department, told VNExpress newspaper that although VFF has the right to make decisions based on its members’ agreements, the regulation restricting the number of naturalized football players is inappropriate.
“Foreign football players who have Vietnamese nationality must be treated equally as all other Vietnamese citizens,” Toan stated.
As it now stands, the rules on using foreign players in the 2010 football season will now not change. Specific regulations for the next football season will be announced on January 1 2010.

"The agents were interested in Sapeo and Oloya because of their age. They are going to take them for a medical check up before putting them in camp for a two-month training stint. It will be after this that they will discuss the final fee, though initial indications are hinting at not less than $100,000 from both players," explained Isiagi.
The club has already lost Asuman Buyinza on a free, while Anthony Bongole and Moses Musoke are still on trials for a possible move to
"The players are still ours until we issue the International Transfer Certificates," Isiagi said adding that several other players will join their friends on trials, but that will be after the clubs seek permission.

Vietnam to play XM Hai Phong
In preparation for the coming Asian Cup Qualifier match against Lebanon in January, Vietnam national team will play a friendly match against V-League side Xi Mang Hai Phong at Lach Tray Stadium on December 24. SEA Games U23 player Thanh Luong anh Thanh Hung were also called up for this game.
Xi Mang Hai Phong (or Hai Phong Cement) is not far too strange to a lot of football fans in the region. They were well-known for successfully persuading former Brazil international Denilson to join their club early this year. Although Denilson has left, many V-League stars have come to XM Hai Phong afterward. The club now is virtually a brand new one compared to itself last season. It's gonna be a tough test for Vietnam.
I'm not a XM Hai Phong fan but honestly this team's squad is one of the best in V-League at the moment. What remains is how the coaches would make that bunch of stars play well and win something. XM Hai Phong will be without Pham Minh Duc and Nguyen Minh Chau for Vietnam NT.

Vietnam did not lose to Malaysia
After Singapore game, everyone celebrated as if Vietnam had already won SEA Games. I don't understand why people underestimated Malaysia that much before the final especially when they were very hungry for a revenge. This attitude plus the pressure of the final affected all Vietnamese players and they could not show their best.
Vietnam had beaten Malaysia in the group stage but it all happened in the past. Obviously Malaysia came into the final, knowing how Vietnam would play, how Vietnam would pass and move. Vietnam could not break their defense while their attackers seemed very dangerous. They exploited all the space we left behind when we pushed up. Yet we kept pushing up to attack and kept losing the ball. It was a big big mistake and we finally had to pay. Malaysia had a successful game and was well-deserved with the victory.

History: Early days of Vietnamese football
The first people who played football in Saigon were French civil servants, merchants and soldiers; some Vietnamese then picked it up. A club called Cercle Sportif Saigonnais (Saigon Sports Circle) was founded and the games were played at the city park, called Jardin de la Ville (today Tao Đàn Park).
In 1905, a British warship named after King Alfred visited Saigon and its football team had a friendly match against a local team composed of Vietnamese and French players. This was considered as the first international football match in Vietnam.
E. Breton, a member of France's L'Union des Sociétés Français des Sports Athlétiques brought football rules into Vietnam in 1906, and as a chairman of Cercle Sportif Saigonnais, he reorganized the club similar to football clubs in France. Some other clubs started to appear, such as Infanterie, Saigon Sport, Athletic Club, Stade Militaire, Tabert Club. Local cups were soon held afterwards. As a well-trained team, Cercle Sportif Saigonnais won for many times, 1907, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912, 1916.
Some Vietnamese learned the game's regulations and established their own teams. The first two Vietnamese teams founded in 1907 were Gia Định Sport run by Ba Vẻ and Phú Khai and Ngôi Sao Xanh (Blue Star) run by Nguyễn Đình Trị. These two teams then came together to form "Ngôi sao Gia Định" (Gia Định Star). Prior to 1920, it had defeated all other teams, including Cercle Sportif Saigonnais (in 1917), and became the champion.
Other teams include: Victoria Sportive, Commerce Sport, Jean Compte, Sport Cholonaise, Khánh Hội Sport, Tân Định Sport, Gò Vấp, Hiệp Hòa, Chợ Quán, Phú Nhuận, Đồng Nai, Enfants de Troupe; in other provinces: Thủ Dầu Một, Cần Thơ, Sóc Trăng, Sa Đéc, Gò Công, Châu Đốc, Mỹ Tho. New grounds were developed, namely Citadelle, Renault (in front of current Thống Nhất Stadium), Fourière, Mayer and Marine.
Football came to the North of Vietnam in about 1906–1907. Some local press told about matches played by Legion Đáp Cầu and Olympique Hải Phòng in 1909. On the first match, Olympique won by 2-1, but they failed by 8-1 next time. In February 1912, Hanoi Football club (Stade Hanoien) was founded. The team was composed of Vietnamese and French players. More and more Vietnamese football clubs were established such as Racing Club, Eclaire, Usaga, Septo, Cotonkin, ASNA Vinh, Sept Hue, Touranne, Faifo Cheminot Nha Trang, Le Semeur, Universite...
Some old articles said that in 1930s when South China (Hong Kong) could beat any Vietnamese football teams easily, their famous striker Ly Hue Duong (Vietnamese version of a Chinese name) made an arrogant comment: "Annamese (Vietnamese) football is like a frog in the well". His comment undoubtedly made Vietnamese players angry. Some years later, South China was unable to beat Vietnamese teams any more. Some results:
In 1937, South China drew 4-4 with United Auto Hall Police (Vietnam) at Tao Dan Stadium.
In 1938, South China lost 1-2 to South Vietnam in Saigon. In May of 1938, South Vietnam traveled to Hong Kong, drawing 1-1 with South China before beating Hong Kong 4-0, winning 6-2 against England Navy, winning 3-0 vs England Army. South Vietnam then visited Philippines where they defeated Letran 4-0 and Le Salle (Philippines champion) 3-0.
Where are all the reporters ?
My morning habit is taking a glance at some online newspaper after breakfast. Since SEA Games 25 started about 2 weeks ago, I have just noticed the importance of this tournament to Vietnamese fans (as well as Vietnamese reporters). About 10-15 news headlines on SEA Games are updated on each newspaper site everyday. Half of them are about football. Football sites are always full of SEA Games news which makes me get a little bored. By contrast, pages on V-League news have not been updated for about 10 days as I notice. The ACL and AFC Cup draw result was announced about a week ago, yet no Vietnamese media gave it a damn. It's not so difficult to understand the cause. As Andy shared in his blog, about 300 Vietnamese reporters were sent to Vientiane to cover the event. I know SEA Games is important for Vietnamese people but 300 is a little too much. Vietnamese reporters completely outnumber those from other countries even host Laos and maybe the number of fans from some nations like East Timor or Philippines can't be compared to them!
History: Vietnam and SEA Games
1959: The first SEA Games (known as SEAP Games) was held in Bangkok (Thailand) in 1959. At that point of time, Vietnam was represented by South Vietnam team. The South Vietnam team had to travel by coach, spending one night in Phnompenh (Cambodia) before arriving at Bangkok. Despite that long and
1961: 2nd SEA Games was held in Rangoon (Burma), Vietnam (South Vietnam) failed to defend its title. Vietnam team was pooled in group A alongside Thailand and Laos. After beating Laos 7-0 and drawing 0-0 with Thai, Vietnam advanced to semi-final to play against Burma (Myanmar). The host was very strong then and they defeated Vietnam 2-1. As a result, Vietnam finished in third place.
1963: Not held.
1965:
1967: Vietnam got silver medal.
1969: Vietnam failed to reach semi-finals.
1971:
1973: Vietnam got silver medal
1975-1989: Vietnam didn't enter SEA Games due to diplomatic issues.
1991: Vietnam lost heavily in group stage (SEA Games 16).
1993: Vietnam lost heavily again (SEA Games 17).
1995: German coach Karl Heine Weigang was appointed as Vietnam head coach. He somehow turned a weak national team into a real surprise-package in SEA Games 18. In group stage, Vietnam won 2-0, 7-0 and 1-0 against Malaysia, Laos and Indonesia respectively before losing 1-3 to host Thailand. In semi-final, Vietnam defeated Myanmar by a golden goal. To the final, Vietnam was not able to cope with Thailand, losing 0-4 and came home with silver medals.
1997: SEA Games 19 (Indonesia) saw Vietnam finish the tournament with bronze medal after losing 1-2 to Thailand in semi-final and winning 1-0 against Singapore in the third-place match.
1999: Vietnam national team went to Brunei with its best team ever since 1990. The team managed to reach the final but lost 0-2 to rival Thailand again. Vietnam got silver medal.
2001: The new rule was adopted in SEA Games 21 in Malaysia. Only under-23 players were eligible to play. Vietnam U23 failed to reach semi-final due to lack of preparation.
2003: SEA Games 22 was held in Vietnam. Vietnam U23 found it a perfect chance to win the first gold medal after 44-year drought. The team was very determined to end Thai dominance in SEA Games. Although Vietnam successfully made its way to the final to play against arch rival Thailand, they once again lost 1-2 after extra-time. Vietnam got silver medal again.
2005: Vietnam brought its squad to Bacolod (Philippines) with full of brilliant young stars. The U23 team was very well-prepared, especially after playing in Asian Cup Qualifying Round in which they managed to earn an amazing 1-0 victory against Asian giant South Korea national team. Vietnam, however, was unable to change the color of its medal this time when losing 0-3 to Thailand in the final. But the silver medal was shadowed by the infamous match-fixing scandal which made 7 Vietnamese players imprisoned and banned globally. Pham Van Quyen, the brightest talent of Vietnamese football at that time, was also involved and his international ban has not been lifted until now.
2007: After surprisingly reaching the final qualifying round of Olympic Beijing 2008 alongside kinds of Japan and Saudi Arabia , a brand new and talented Vietnam U23 took part in SEA Games 24 with huge expectation. Nevertheless the team was unable to show its best after a busy year with congested tournaments. Losing PK to Myanmar U23 in the semi-final, Vietnam U23 disappointed all the fans. In the third-place match, the lackluster Vietnam side suffered heavy 0-5 defeat to Singapore U23.
